Tsurutontan Udon

Massive udon meals, with a free upgrade to triple the size

Tsurutontan is famous for its giant bowls of udon. They have all kinds of udon with pretty solid toppings, from cutlet curry udon to carbonara pasta-udon. If you’re worried about carbs, there’s a low-carb option for a nominal fee. Even if you’re not the biggest udon fan, it’s certainly an experience! It’s a chain restaurant, available in various locations across Tokyo and Osaka.

The Menu

There are over 40 different styles of udon here to enjoy so theres definitely something for everyone. Do note that the menu may vary slightly by store. For any order you can upsize your portion of udon noodles from one and a half, double and even triple portions for free!

The Cutlet Curry Udon (1,380 yen)

For the Curry Udon, we got a double portion of noodles with the “thin” noodle style. Its difficult to capture the scale of the size of the bowls – we put the standard size chopstick on the edge of the bowl to help show the scale. The giant bowl also helps the portion of katsu look tiny but it was a definitely a good amount.

The Tsurutontan Zanmai (1,980 yen)

This is one of their major dishes. It’s a mix of sukiyaki udon (the kind with beef and egg) and tempura udon. Pretty tasty, and very filling! I got the noodles switched to the low-carb type for about 180 yen extra.

There’s a bunch of other udon meals on the menu, so take your pick and go crazy!
