Henn na Hotel Akasaka (Robot Hotel)

World’s first Robot Hotel Chain

Henn na Hotel translates to “weird hotel” in Japanese.  For many tourists and otaku, a fun level of weirdness is exactly what you are expecting from Japan right?  Well you’re in luck because the weird robot hotel is now available in Tokyo for booking a stay.

So how weird does it get?  When entering the hotel, you’ll be greeted by the somewhat life-like robot concierges and a little kiosk for you to check in with.   When checking in, if you do happen to encounter any problems, there are actual real live humans available there to help so you don’t have to worry about the robots going Jurassic Park on you.

The Henn Na Hotel has all the normal hotel amenities, but it prides itself on having a “commitment to evolution”. It has interesting new tech to make your stay comfortable – including a Futon Temperature Controller, an LG Styler to help “freshen your clothes”, an Atmoph Smart Window and a cute little Unibo Concierge robot for you to interact with.

Is it as good as a “normal” hotel?  Unless you are splurging and staying at the Ritz Carlton, you should expect small rooms and bathrooms when staying in most hotels in Tokyo and Henn Na Hotel is no different.  You will be spending most of your time outside anyways right?  It is still more comfortable than staying at a shared hostel or capsule hotel.

Located in Akasaka, Henn Na Hotel is centrally located just few stops away from Tokyo Station, Shibuya and Shinjuku.  You will easily be able to access most of central Tokyo fairly easily.  It is not however, located near a JR train line meaning if you are using JR Rail Pass, you will have pay to use the Tokyo Metro Lines to get to and from the hotel. There is an Irish Pub downstairs right next to it and Michelin rated Tonkatsu restaurant just around the corner in a small alley.

If you’re interesting in booking, make sure to compare prices on both Agoda.com and Booking.com to get the best rates.
