An Illuminating Christmas Season in Midtown Roppongi

Christmas lights, known locally as illuminations, are all over the city. Some illuminations are even popular enough to attract corporate sponsorship. This year, Netflix is bringing a unique experience to the Christmas season in Midtown Roppongi.

A pathway of decorated trees and bright lights

You can’t miss the area. A lit pathway meanders through a large outdoor space surrounded by brightly lit Christmas trees, encouraging visitors to stop to snap selfies at each tree. Nearby, the attendants politely remind patrons to social distance.

Lights and a smoke machine make the night!

This year, a giant snow globe was placed at the end of the path, filled with modern light fixtures that flash and sparkle. The colors change from brilliant blue and white to festive green and red in a choreographed routine. A hidden smoke machine adds mystery to the romantic scene.

The Gifts on the Tree

One special tree, designated the Christmas Gift Tree, is laden with brightly colored ornaments and illuminated gift boxes. The boxes are a numbered countdown to Christmas and increase each day as the holiday nears. On December 25th, the tree will be full of bright packages.

Outdoor Ice-Skating!

This year, one of the largest outdoor skating rinks in Japan is back! From November 18 to February 27th, the Mitsui Fudosan Ice Rink will be open at the nearby Grass Square.

Mitsui Fudosan’s slogan, “Be The Change” is proudly displayed near the entrance of the rink. Their message highlights the company’s commitment to supporting sporting events such as the 2020 Olympics and Paralympic games.
