Explore Kyoto’s iconic bamboo grove

It seems everyone who visits Kyoto has been here at least once. I’ve probably passed through Arashiyama Bamboo Grove at least three or four times, simply because it’s such a beautiful path.
Routes through the Bamboo Grove
One possible route to get here is to hit up Tenryuji Temple from near the Arashiyama station, then exit, such that you’ll be at the entrance to the bamboo grove. From here, you can walk your way past tourists and selfie sticks and find your way to Torokko Arashiyama Station. A bit more hiking from here, and you’ll have access to remote places like Giouji Temple.
Recommended time to go
Honestly, morning is the best time to go. There will be fewer people photobombing your pictures, and the lighting through the leaves is gorgeous! In the daytime, it’s pretty much always busy with people. But in the nighttime, It takes on a totally different flavor, feeling more secretive and solemn. Might be nice for a date night.
